Beltrami County Sheriff’s Deputy Lyan Karger received an Award of Merit for arresting 70 impaired drivers in 2009, more than 34 percent of the overall total for the Sheriff’s Office. His outstanding commitment to public safety has aided in one of the Sheriff’s Office’s most sacred and fundamental duties in law enforcement, that of protector of the innocent, Sheriff Phil Hodapp said.
