Letter: How can for-profit firm walk away from its mess?
After reading today’s (April 22) newspaper concerning the potential cost of environmental cleanup of the south shore property formerly owned by Georgia Pacific, it strikes me that something is wrong here. It is my understanding that the contamination came about from the operations of Georgia Pacific. How is it that a for-profit corporation is permitted to walk away from its mess and pass the bill for cleanup to the state and Bemidji (75/25)?
