Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 13 at Hope Lutheran Church in Northome with the Rev. Roy Johnson officiating. Burial of cremains will be in the spring at Forest Hill Cemetery in Northome under the direction of Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck.
She was born Sept. 25, 1924 in International Falls to William and Mabel (Radtke) Forsythe. She was raised and attended schools in International Falls, and graduated from International Falls High School in 1942. She worked at Mando Paper Mill in the Insulation Division during World War II in International Falls.
She married Lynn “Bud” Thompson in November of 1945 in International Falls. He died in 1950 then she married Harold Estabrooks in 1955 and moved to Island Lake near Northome. She started working as a head cook for the Northome School in 1961 and continued until her retirement in 1990. She also cooked at Benders Resort on Island Lake during the summers for many years.
For the five years prior to her mother’s death, she cared for her at her home. She spent the last year at the Northome Healthcare Center. She was a longtime active member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Northome. She enjoyed knitting, baking, cooking, playing cards, and especially loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Barb (Ken) Kininger of Northome, Gail (Steve) Heald of Northome, Bill (Nancy) Thompson of Hudson, WI and Keith (Kathie) Estabrooks of Littlefork; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores Erickson-Weiberg of St. Frances and Karen (Don) Piekarski of International Falls; two brothers, James (Valerie) Forsythe and Dick (Liz) Forsythe, both of International Falls and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lynn “Bud” Thompson in 1950; a granddaughter, Jody Daman, in 2001; a grandson-in-law, Robert Rosson, in March of 2009 and her brother, Lloyd Forsythe.
