Final church musicians recital Wednesday

BEMIDJI -- The final recital in the 30th season of the Bemidji Area Church Musicians’ series is set for noon, Wednesday, Aug. 30 at First Lutheran Church, 900 Bemidji Ave.

Turtle Island Ensemble will perform. The group includes Sarah Carlson, piano, Andrew Ronnevik, violin, Jon Romer, Native American flute, Mike Tangen, guitar and Bob Madeson, euphonium. A feature of this concert will be a piece by Mexican composer Alice Gomez, written in Native American style, using Native flute.

A special appearance of two young performers will be included in this recital. Claire Carlson, fifth-grade daughter of Sarah Carlson will perform on flute a piece called “Bridges” by Jon Romer, and eighth-grader Noel Aguilera will sing “Panis Angelicus” by Cesar Franck. A luncheon will follow the concert with a price to be announced.     

A free-will offering will be received at the door, which is used for scholarships for college music students from the Bemidji area.
