Bluegrass concert announced

BEMIDJI — The Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Association recently announced that it will bring its annual Minnesota Bluegrass Community Concert Series to Bemidji. Barton’s Hollow and Sloughgrass will share the stage. The show will take place at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Historic Chief Theater, 314 Beltrami Ave. NW. Cost is $12 for adults, $15 at the door, $5 for teens and free for children twelve years of age.

Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grant available

BEMIDJI — Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grant is open to individual Native American artists in all arts disciplines residing in Becker, Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Hubbard, Itasca, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, and Roseau Counties.

This grant offers funding for costs associated with the exhibition, performance, or production of a creative work; purchase of materials or equipment necessary for a creative work; educational opportunities; mentorships; and proposals for career-enhancing projects or opportunities .Artists can apply for grants up to $1,000

Poetry slam scheduled

BEMIDJI — A poetry slam will take place Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. at the American Legion, 217 Minnesota Ave NW. Sonny Johnson, local musician, will perform at 7 p.m.,  during intermission and after the slam. Interested participants should sign up at the Bemidji Public Library, 509 America Ave. NW. The number of entries may be limited. The prize will be $100.

Nominations for Annual Friend of the Arts Award

BEMIDJI — Nominations are open for the Friend of the Arts 2014 and will be accepted by the art center this month. A nominee for the Friend of the Arts award should be a living person who has been devoted to the arts and has donated time, effort, resources or talents to promote the arts in the greater Bemidji area. To make a nomination, use the form provided on the art center website or stop by the art center for a hard copy. Specific information and a detailed description of achievements help the committee understand your candidate’s impact on the arts in our community. Several letters of support from community members whose lives have been touched by your nominee should be included.  Nominations must be received at the Watermark Art Center (former BCAC) at 426 Bemidji Ave, Bemidji, MN 56601, no later than February 28.
