Pioneer Previews for May 26: Art fundraiser will benefit food shelf

BEMIDJI — Small Art for Big Hearts is a fundraiser for the Bemidji Community Food Shelf.

The event, help by the Artists of Studio 10, will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Sanford Center. About 100 local artists have donated a small piece of original 2D artwork to be sold for $25 each. All proceeds will benefit the food shelf.

Area Exhibits

The Neilson Place installation of wildlife painter Beverly Joslyn will be in place through June. Neilson Place is located on the Sanford WoodsEdge campus, 1000 Anne St. NW, and open to the public during regular visiting hours.

— The technology, art and design faculty at Bemidji State University have an installation in the Talley Gallery, Room 212 of Bensen Hall on the BSU campus. The exhibition will feature the work of nine faculty members: Drew Graham digital and interactive design; Tim Brockman, woodworking; Dennis Peterson, silverpoint drawing; Natalia Himmirska, painting and drawing; Barbara Hanus, painting; Butch Holden, ceramics; David Towley, woodworking; Bonnie Higgins, photography; Steve Sundahl, 3D design.

The show will be open through the summer. The gallery will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays through June 28, then reopen Aug. 28 through the Sept. 20 closing.

— The Blackduck History and Art Center summer hours are 1-4 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays, June 1 through Aug. 31. Visits by special appointment may be scheduled by calling 835-4478 or 835-8210

Upcoming Events

Bemidji Area Church Musicians opens its 26th season of summer concerts, the proceeds from which for 17 years have supported its scholarship program for area graduating high school students who will major in music. The first concert will feature Eric Haugen on June 5 at First Lutheran Church.

— Homes for Heroes and the Sanford Center co-sponsor Nashville recording Trio "The Farm" at 8 p.m. June 7 at the Sanford Center. Tickets are $25 each and may be purchased in advance at Lueken’s Ticketmaster Outlet and at the Sanford Center box office.

— Long Lake Theater will open its summer season with "The Odd Couple" by Neil Simon on June 12 with performances until July 13. Sticking to the tradition of producing one Simon comedy a season, this classic features clean-freak Felix Unger and ultimate slob Oscar Madison as unlikely roommates. For times and ticket prices, see
