Twin Cities theater group to hold workshops at Rail River
BEMIDJI -- The Twin Cities based Sod House Theater company will travel to Bemidji this weekend for a series of free workshops related to music and comedy.
Taking place at the Rail River Folk School, the company will have five workshops total, with one Friday, two on Saturday and another two on Monday.
On Friday, the workshop from 6:30 to 8 p.m. will focus on singing. According to a press release, the workshop will encourage performers to develop the components of vocal production.
The next workshop will take place Saturday morning from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and will center on introducing stage techniques and physical comedy. Then, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., another musical workshop is scheduled. The evening session will allow participants to share stories about the community and discuss the craft of songwriting which will lead to turning the shared stories into original songs.
On Monday evening, the first workshop is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m., where Sod House Theater directors will be joined by officials from the Region 2 Arts Council. During that time they will discuss the opportunity to be involved in a professional musical theater adaptation of Ibsen’s “Enemy of the People,” which will be performed in August in Bemidji.
The final workshop, scheduled from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., will incorporate movement and improvisation mixed with live and pre-recorded music.
Rail River Folk School is located at 303 Railroad St. SW in Bemidji.
