First Friday Art Walk in Bemidji scheduled for Sept. 4

The First Friday Art Walk in Bemidji will be held Friday, Sept. 4, and will include the following participants:

- Bemidji Community Art Center will host its September First Friday Art Walk and Opening Reception from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at 426 Bemidji Ave. The featured exhibit, titled "Unique Vision" by Jon Heller is an exhibit of landscape photographs from Utah, Wyoming and Minnesota. Shop 426 will be open, with new inventory. All proceeds from Shop 426 benefit BCAC programming and the artists of Shop 426. The BCAC is free and open to the public. - Gallery North welcomes Steve Herriot as their September Showcase Artist. An open house will be held from 2-5 p.m. Friday, at 502 Third St. N.W. Herriot is known for his landscape paintings in acrylic. Gallery North's featured artists for the month of September, are Monie Martin and Jeanine Brooks. Monie is a well known basket maker whose work ranges from functional to fine art. Jeanine is a painter who is known for her whimsical oil paintings of the Bemidji area. Monie will be demonstrating her basket making skills during the open house. The author of the month is Wendy Potratz, who will read from her book "Agnes Plays Soccer, a humorous story for children on organized sports.

A beginning/intermediate watercolor class titled 'Fall Birches," taught by Grace Garland and Marion Caroline Reil will be held from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 502 Third St. N.W. - Headwaters School of Music and the Arts will host an open reception for jewelry artist, Christina Thorne of Bad Cat Creations, from 5-7 p.m. Friday, at 519 Minnesota Ave. N. Thorne will showcase her unique style and original designs and will discuss her creative process, her inspirations for her one-of-a-kind designs and will provide more information on the upcoming Jewelry Workshop, which will be held in September. - Bemidji Public Library Art Wall will host an opening reception for Kathy Jo McKeown from 3-5 p.m. Friday. McKeown explores the world through a macro lens. Her work reflects the intimate beauty found in nature and with other subjects, up close. Her exhibit will focus on recent macro work and include other work as well. The exhibit was made possible, in part, by the Region 2 Arts Council, allowing her to further her study in macro photography. For more information, call Paul Simonson at 444-7886.

- Dunn Bros Coffee will feature an exhibit, titled, "Local and Global: Photographs that make you wonder" by John Eggers. An opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, at 501 Paul Bunyan Drive S. Eggers will be on hand to meet guest and talk about his "quest for the exceptional photograph." To John, "a good photograph is a mixture of exceptional lighting, unique composition and an interesting subject that is just a bit out in left field. - Bad Cat Creations Gallery and Gifts will feature a pottery exhibit by Malotte Backer of Bagley. An opening reception will be held from 4-6 p.m. Friday, at 315 Irvine Ave. N.W. Backer will share information on her creative process and her home studio. There will also be live wheel-throwing demos outside Bad Cat, weather permitting. Refreshments will be served. Bad Cat Creations Gallery and Gifts is a boutique featuring art and fine craft by more than 35 different artists and an eclectic selection of fun gifts and contemporary accessories. - Beltrami County Historical Society, in conjunction with Gallery North presents the "School Days" exhibit, which will open Friday, Sept. 4. An opening reception will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday at The History Center, 130 Minnesota Ave. S.W. Refreshments will be served, and admission is free. - The North Country Health Services Art Committee will host artist Terry Honstead and her exhibit, "Another Take" as a part of the September First Friday Art Walk. An opening reception will be held from 3-5 p.m. Friday, at Neilson Place, 1000 Anne St. N.W., Bemidji. Working with watercolor and acrylic and sometimes collage, Honstead has created a collection of work to reflect her impression of life and other happenings around her. - Cabin Coffeehouse and Café will host an opening reception featuring artist Grace Garland, from 5-7 p.m. Friday, at 214 Third Street. A member of Gallery North and Northern Artist Association president since 2004, Garland is a self-taught artist focusing her talents on primarily realistic paintings with an "up north" theme. Garland works in a variety of mediums including watercolor, oil and acrylic and teaches painting workshops at Gallery North.
