First Friday events set at Gallery North

BEMIDJI — “Autumn Art Fest Watercolor Contest” will be the showcase for the month of October with a reception from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 4 at Gallery North, 502 3rd St. NW.

The First Friday Featured Artist will be Carol Hoyum. She is an avid photographer and digital designer. She creates inspirational photo art, mandalas, photographic pendant jewelry, greeting cards, bookmarks and gift tags.

UND Chamber Orchestra to perform

BEMIDJI — The University of North Dakota Chamber Orchestra will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at the First Lutheran Church, 900 Bemidji Ave. N. The concert is free and open to the public.

Arts festival slated

Oct. 4-5 at Red Lake

RED LAKE — Honoring Our Ancestors Arts Festival will be held 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 4 and 5 on Minnesota Highway 1 in Red Lake.

Demonstrations of painting, beading, Native American signing, hoop dancing, quilts, roach, hand drum and regalia making.

Traditional food processing demonstrations of wild rice and smoked fish and also Ojibwe language teachings will be given.

Art Leap 2013 set for the weekend

PARK RAPIDS — The Park Rapids Lakes Area Arts Council will sponsor Art Leap 2013 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Nemeth Art Center, 301 Court Ave. and other area studios.

Art Leap is an open studio event featuring artists’ studios in the Park Rapids area giving visitors the opportunity to meet local artists.

Grant deadlines approaching

BEMIDJI — The deadline for Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grant applications is Tuesday and the Individual Artist Grant application deadline is Oct. 3.

Anishinaabe Arts Initiative Grant is open to any American Indian artists residing in Becker, Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Hubbard, Itasca, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen and Roseau counties.

The Individual Artist Grant is available to artists in all disciplines residing in Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Lake of the Woods and Mahnomen counties.

Czech bluegrass band to perform

PARK RAPIDS — Druha Trava, a bluegrass band from the Czech Republic, will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Park Rapids High School Auditorium.

Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for students and are available at Beagle Books, 112 3rd St. W., Park Rapids.
