Youth Hockey: Bemidji will play for Headwaters bracket title Sunday morning
BEMIDJI – The Bemidji Pee Wee AA hockey team dropped its final pool play game during Saturday’s Paul Bunyan International Hockey Tournament, but the home squad rebounded with a win in its first bracket play game and will play for some hardware Sunday afternoon.
Bemidji, who lost its first two pool play games Friday – falling to Marquette, Mich., 6-2 and losing to the Grand Forks Seawolves 4-3 – played Andover in the final game of the North Division pool Saturday at Nymore Gardens.
Bemidji fell to Andover 2-1.
That placed Bemidji in the Headwaters bracket for fourth-place teams.
The home side had much more success in their semifinal contest, topping Keweenaw 10-3 at Bemidji Community Arena.
That puts Bemidji into Sunday morning’s Headwaters Bracket championship game, where they will play Crookston for the title. The game is scheduled to face off at 9 a.m. at the Sanford Center.
Crookston defeated Fort Frances, Ontario, 3-2 in their semifinal contest.
In the Championship Bracket, Brainerd will take on either Grand Rapids in the title game, scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the Sanford Center.
