Yost verbally commits to Bemidji State

BEMIDJI – Jess Yost has been a dominant player for the Bemidji High School volleyball, basketball and softball teams for the past three years.

Yost began her senior season Monday, joining her Lumberjacks volleyball teammates for the year’s initial practice session, and her dominance on the court and on the field is expected to continue.

Area sports fans have come to appreciate her contributions and her abilities and those fans will continue to have the opportunity to follow Yost’s progression next year when she takes her talents across town to the Bemidji State University campus.

Yost has given her verbal commitment to BSU and the Lumberjack plans on playing volleyball and softball for the Beavers.

“Now that I’ve committed I can enjoy my senior year and not worry about where I will go to college,” Yost said. “My decision was between BSU and NDSU and I chose BSU because I can play two sports. BSU also has a very good graphic design program and that is what I want to major in.”

Bemidji High School volleyball coach Teresa Colligan believes that Yost will fit in very well with the BSU programs.

“If Jess wants to play two sports, BSU is a good spot for her,” Colligan said. “I know that (Bemidji State volleyball coach Wayne Chadwick) is building up the program so this is a good fit for Jess.

“With her blocking, hitting, her height and her passing ability Jess will be a threat both offensively and defensively for Bemidji State,” Colligan added.

Athletes who play multiple sports at the collegiate level are rare but Yost believes she can join that fraternity.

“I’ve been playing three sports for a long time and now I’ll only be playing two,” Yost said. “There isn’t any volleyball in the spring so I’m sure I will be able to play softball. Time management will be the key.”
