Yost, Jacks dominate Tech
Bemidji Minnesota P.O. Box 455 56619

Jess Yost tossed a 1-hitter and her offense generated 10 hits as the Bemidji softball team blanked St. Cloud Tech 11-0 Monday in St. Cloud.

"We talked about being ready to play from the start of the game," said BHS coach Brad Takkunen. "Tech gave us some offensive opportunities and we were able to take advantage of some of them. We still need to keep working on our at-bats but Monday we were able to adjust offensively."

The Lumberjacks scored all the runs Yost would need in the opening inning, scoring twice to take control.

Summer Monsrud opened the frame with a walk and Erika Weimann was safe when Tech botched her sacrifice bunt. Jineane Williams followed with an RBI single and another single by Yost loaded the bases.

Janelle Williams capped the inning with another RBI single.

The 2-0 lead continued until Bemidji put the game out of reach with six runs in the fifth.

A single by Chelsea Johnson and walks to Taylor McLean and Monsrud loaded the bases and they all scored when Weimann's hot grounder zipped past the shortstop and rolled to the gap. After Jineane Williams walked, she worked a double-steal with Weimann.

An out later Janelle Williams doubled home Weimann and an error on Emily Larson's grounder plated Jineane Williams.

The Jacks capped the scoring with three in the sixth. Weimann walked, Yost singled and Janelle Williams walked to fill the sacks. An error plated Weiemann and, after Larson singled, Chelsea Johnson scored two with another single.

Yost dominated the Tech batters and the only hit she allowed was a single in the third inning. Yost finished with seven strikeouts and two walks.

"Jess was sharp," Takkunen said. "She overmatched most of the hitters with her fastball and she fooled the hitters with her change."

Janelle Williams contributed three hits while Yost and Larson each had two. Weimann scored three times and Janelle Williams collected three RBI.

Bemidji will return to action 4:30 p.m. Thursday when it entertains Duluth East.
