WRESTLING: Three Bemidji wrestlers win titles at Thief River Falls Shootout
THIEF RIVER FALLS – Individual championships by Logan Crosby at 126 pounds, Kade Johnson at 170 and Alex Johnson at heavyweight lifted the Bemidji wrestling team to second place at Saturday’s 17-team Thief River Falls Invitational.
The Lumberjacks tallied 191 points and trailed only Badger-Greenbush-Middle River which scored 225. Thief River Falls was third with 171.5 and Blackduck-Cass Lake-Bena finished sixth with 107.5.
Crosby began his day with a first-period pin of Stanley Peltier of East Grand Forks and followed that performance with a pair of one-sided decision wins.
Kade Johnson pinned all three of his opponents in a combined time of 4:08. Alex Johnson needed to win four matches to claim his title. His first three victims were pinned in a combined time of 2:04 and Johnson capped his championship performance with a 9-4 decision over Hunter Bronson of Fargo Davies.
Dylon Sauceda at 120 contributed a runner-up finish while Brian Maas was third at 113.
