The fourth-seeded Jacks opened their section meet with a 43-18 victory over No. 5 Sartell but they couldn’t maintain that momentum against the top-seeded Flyers.

Joining Little Falls in the section championship match was Moorhead which belted Brainerd 42-24 in the quarterfinals and thumped Alexandria 45-17 in the semifinals. Moorhead continued its success in the final as it blitzed Little Falls 34-19.

Bemidji found itself in a tight battle with Sartell as it led only 19-18 after the 160-pound battle. The Lumberjacks, however, turned on the gas the rest of the way and claimed the victory by winning the final five matches.

Nick Peterson started the late run with a 7-4 decision over Caleb O’Brien. Peterson trailed 4-2 in the latter stages of the match but he turned defeat into victory by posting a reverse and a near fall in the final 13 seconds.

Kade Johnson continued his winning ways with a 34-second pin at 182 and Brody Wilander outgunned Jordan Houkous 12-9 at 195.

Gabe Flaherty pinned Mitchell Zayas in 1:31 and Wyatt Yoemans put the exclamation point on the win with a second-period pin of Ben Strom.

Earlier in the match Brian Maas posted a pin at 120, Tyler O’Beirne contributed a 13-3 major decision triumph at 126, Robert Treuer won by a decision at 138 and Jon Solum was awarded a bye at 113.

Little Falls proved to be a tougher foe, however, as the Flyers limited BHS to only five individual wins.

Chance Hinrichs had one of them as he decisioned Leo Wilcek 7-5 in the 106-pound battle.

The Flyers answered with a decision win at 113 but Bemidji countered with Brian Maas’ 9-2 victory at 120.

Little Falls, however, took charge with four straight victories. Gannon Strain temporarily snapped the streak with a 7-5 decision at 152 but Little Falls upped its cushion to 32-9 with a major win at 160 and a pin triumph at 170.

Wilander and Johnson provided Bemidji’s final points with pins at 182 and 195.

The Lumberjacks now turn their attention to the Section 8-3A individual tournament which will be Friday and Saturday at Sartell.
