Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame inducts Bemidji's Howie Schultz
BENSON - Howie Schultz of Bemidji was recently inducted into the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Also inducted this year was Jeff Olson, a 1962 Bemidji High School graduate and a former high school wrestling coach in Roseau, where he compiled a record of 146-79-5.
Schultz was a assistant wrestling coach at BHS for many years. He wrestled at Chisholm High School and at Bemidji State, where he was coached by Chet Anderson.
During the Hall of Fame ceremony, Schultz praised longtime BHS wrestling coach Ken Schmoker, who Schultz said was a superb mentor, technician, coach and educator.
Schultz also acknowledged the support he received during his coaching career from the Bemidji administration, athletic directors, parents, his family, especially his wife Darlene, and the media.
In addition to Schultz and Olson, this year's Hall of Fame inductee list included athletes Gary Alexander, Luke Becker, Duane Koslowski and Chuck Ofsthun plus contributors Bill Hinchley and Dean Hiscocks.
