BUFFALO — The Bemidji wrestling team completed a busy weekend by placing third at Saturday’s tournament hosted by Buffalo.

The Lumberjacks, who defeated St. Francis and fell to Cambridge on Friday, began Saturday’s action by blitzing Buffalo 48-17. The Jacks then were edged 33-32 by Sartell in the semifinals but BHS bounced back in the third-place match, thumping Rogers 48-24.

Earning decision wins were Dylon Sauceda (138), Robert Treuer (145) and Alex O’Neal (152) while Jon Solum (106), Hunter Schoenborn (160) and Sabastien Jackson (195) received forfeit wins.

The match against Sartell went down to the wire but a Bemidji forfeit at heavyweight allowed the Sabres to edge the Jacks 33-32.

Brian Maas won his second match of the day with a pin and Brody Wilander also stuck his opponent at 182.

Sauceda (132) posted a technical fall while Lucas Gast (152), Gannon Strain (160) and Wyatt Yoemans (220) won by decision and Johnson was awarded a forfeit victory at 195.

In Saturday’s third-place match the Lumberjacks spotted Rogers an early lead but BHS won five of seven matches to take charge.

Parker Beyer began the run with a forfeit win and Brian Maas followed with his third pin of the day and fifth of the weekend at 120.

Tyler Maas kept the string going with a decision victory at 126 and Sauceda’s decision at 138 and a forfeit win for O’Neal at 145 capped the spurt.

Nick Peterson contributed a decision win at 170 and Johnson climaxed the day with a pin at 195.

Bemidji was scheduled to visit Grand Rapids on Tuesday but that dual has already been cancelled because of the predicted cold weather. On Thursday the Jacks hope to travel to Hibbing.
