BEMIDJI - The Bemidji State University women's hockey team has added goaltenders for the 2012-13 seaso.. The Beavers signed transfer Abby Ryplanski of Winnipeg from Niagara University and Alexane Rodrigue of Monkland, Ont.
Ryplanski joins BSU after Niagara disbanded its women's hockey program following the 2011-12 campaign. Both players will help aid BSU as they look to replace All-America selection Zuzana Tomcikova and Alana McElhinney.
Rodrigue played for the Ontario Hockey Academy Intermediate AA Gold squad in 2010 and 2011. She helped lead the Mavericks to gold medals at the McGill University Tournament and National Hockey Academy Tournament in 2011 and the Manon Rheaume, Stoney Creek and Can-Am Kitchener Tournaments in 2010.

"We are very excited to have Alexane Rodrigue join our Bemidji State hockey family," said assistant coach Shane Veenker. "We believe Alexane's biggest strength is her consistency. She is an outstanding controlled first save goaltender and exhibits a level of calmness during highly stressful times on the ice that will translate well into playing in the competitive WCHA.
"She is another outstanding student-athlete exhibited by her success in the classroom and comes from a great program."
Ryplanski split time as the starter in net as a freshman for the Purple Eagles. She started 19 games for Niagara and posted a 2.36 goals against average and a .909 save percentage. Ryplanski had 422 saves for Niagara posted an overall mark of 5-9-3. Ryplanski will be entering Bemidji State as a sophomore.
"We are excited to be able to bring a goaltender with Division I experience like Abby has," said head coach Steve Sertich. "Not only is she a solid goaltender but she is a top notch student-athlete who comes from a great family. Abby will be a great addition for our team and to the Bemidji community."
