But on Saturday the Beavers fell just short.

UND's Tanja Eisenschmid scored the go-ahead goal seven minutes into the third period and North Dakota escaped with a 2-1 win over Bemidji State at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Rachael Kelly, who scored a key third period goal for BSU on Friday, scored the lone goal for BSU (9-14-3, 6-12-2-1 WCHA)..

Eisenschmid gave UND (16-5-3, 13-4-3-2 WCHA) its first lead at 7:43 of the third with assists by Lisa and Layla Marvin.

BSU had some chances later in the third period but couldn't find the equalizer. The teams played 4-on-4 for about 90 seconds before having an opportunity on the power play with an extra attacker for 27 seconds. At one point Kelly nearly scored the equalizer on a redirect but couldn't quite beat UND goaltender Shelby Amsley-Benzie.

UND outshot BSU 28-14 on the night, including 11-2 in the third period. Amsley-Benzie made 13 saves for UND while Brittni Mowat made 26 for BSU.

Kelly opened up the scoring for Bemidji State with an unassisted top-shelf breakaway goal almost seven minutes into the game.

The goal energized the Beavers and they came close to scoring a few more times in the period, outshooting UND 6-5 in the frame.

But North Dakota turned the tables in the second frame, dominating play thanks in part to an early goal and two back-to-back power plays.

Josefine Jakobsen -- who also scored in the third period of Friday's game -- scored the equalizer at the 3 minute, 11 second markl of the second.

Then later in the period the Beavers were forced to kill two straight penalties when Tess Dusik went to the sin bin for a hook at 10:33; only seconds after she rejoined the team on the ice Alex Ehlert was called for a trip.

The Beavers killed off both penalties but as a result UND dominated the period, outshooting BSU 12-6.

In the third Eisenschmid's second goal of the season proved the difference.

BSU's penalty kill held UND scoreless on five opportunities.

The Beavers return home next weekend for another WCHA series against Minnesota-Duluth.

UMD is currently in fourth place in the league standings with 35 points while BSU is fifth with 21; the Beavers will hope to gain on on the Bulldogs with a sweep.
