Women's hockey: UND scores in overtime to sweep Beavers
GRAND FORKS — Meghan Dufault scored 9:47 into overtime to lift the North Dakota women’s hockey team to a 3-2 victory over BSU Saturday night.
The victory completed a 2-0 sweep by UND in the best-of-three WCHA playoff series.
The home team took a 1-0 lead 11:42 into the action but BSU countered with two consecutive goals to open a 2-1 advantage after 40 minutes.
Whitney Wivoda tallied her third goal of the year a minute after Hanson’s goal to tie the game and 12 minutes into the middle stanza BSU’s Lauren Miller scored courtesy of assists by Tess Dusk and Wivoda.
The 2-1 lead stood until UND’s Halli Krzyzaniak beat BSU goalie Brittni Mowat with 6:15 to play in regulation.
Neither team scored during the final minutes of regulation but Dufault eventually sent North Dakota into the WCHA Final Faceoff with her overtime goal.
Mowart stopped 33 shots. The Beavers tested UND goalie Shelby Amsley-Benzie 26 times.
