WOMEN'S HOCKEY: Providence evens series with 5-1 win over Bemidji State

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Kaitlyn Tougas scored her first collegiate goal for Bemidji State women’s hockey team’s game against Providence, but it wasn’t enough.

The Friars took the second game of the two-game nonconference series 5-1 Saturday afternoon.

Tougas’ goal tied the game at 1-1 in the first period for the Beavers (1-1-0), but Providence (1-1-0) scored four unanswered goals during the final 40 minutes to earn the split in the series.

Jessica Vella, Brooke Simpson, Corinne Buie, Haley Frade and Nicole Anderson all scored for the Friars.

Abby Ryplanski made her BSU debut in net. The transfer from Niagara was tagged with the loss after allowing five goals; she stopped 21 of 26 shots.

Providence goalie Sarah Bryant finished the game with 12 saves.
