The Beavers held the Badgers scoreless after 20 minutes of play Friday night at the Sanford Center.

But those 20 minutes weren’t enough to contain No. 2 Wisconsin.

Despite what BSU head coach Steve Sertich called a good second period, the Badgers scored four times in the second frame and ended up beating the Beavers 6-0 in their Western Collegiate Hockey Association game.

“It’s disappointing in that we played pretty well in the second period,” BSU head coach Steve Sertich toal Beaver Radio Network after the game. “We probably played better in the second period than in the first but we couldn’t score.”

BSU (9-12-2, 6-10-1 WCHA) played good defense in the first period and outshot 11-6. In the second period they outshot the Badgers 11-8 but four of Wisconsin’s eight shots were goals.

Karley Sylvester broke the scoreless tie five minutes into the second period, taking a shot that hit off the back of BSU goalie Brittni Mowat and into the goal.

Brittany Ammerman and Kaitlyn Harding helped add to Wisconsin’s lead later in the period, scoring a pair of goals in a span of two and a half minutes to make it 3-0.

Ammerman scored her WCHA-leading 14th goal of the season at the 11:38 mark while Harding beat Mowat at the 13:14 mark.

Harding added a second goal with under two minutes to play to give Wisconsin (18-3-2, 14-3-2 WCHA) a four-goal lead.

The Badgers added a fifth goal with Ammerman’s second of the night on a 5-on-3 power-play at the 4:10 mark of the third.

Blayre Turnbull added Wisconsin’s final goal of the afternoon at 7:32.

Mowat made 29 saves for the Beavers while Desbiens stopped 19 BSU shots. Badgers’ sophomore Jorie Walters played the final 10 minutes of the game in goal but didn’t need to make any saves..

The teams return to the ice at 2 p.m. today for the series finale.
