The win was the Beavers’ first against Wisconsin since Feb. 7, 2010, snapping an eight-game losing streak in the series.

The teams complete their two-game series Sunday.

Kristin Huber, a sophomore forward from Kelowna, B.C., scored the game’s only goal 4:54 into the third period and sophomore goalie Abby Ryplanski of Winnipeg came up huge with a 27-save shutout.

BSU halted a three-game losing streak overall and recorded its first WCHA win of the season. Bemidji State is 2-3-0 overall and 1-2-0-0 in conference play, while the Badgers dropped to 3-3-1 with a 1-3-1-1 ledger in league action.

Wisconsin held a slim 19-17 shot advantage after two periods, but Ryplanski and Wisconsin netminder Alex Rigsby kept the game scoreless.

In the third period, the first goal in the history of LaBahn Arena would prove to be enough for a BSU victory.

Early in the frame, two Badger players collided lost control of the puck deep in their defensive zone. With Rigsby out of the net, Huber pounced on an opportunity stemming from a Megan Lushanko feed to give BSU the lead.

Ryplanski took control from there, stopping all eight UW shots she faced in the third period to earn her second career shutout and first as a Beaver. The sophomore goaltender also recorded a shutout against Colgate on Nov. 5, 2011 when she was playing for the now-defunct Niagara University program.
