WOMEN'S HOCKEY: Bemidji State squanders 2-0 leads, falls to Minnesota-Duluth 4-2

BEMIDJI – The Bemidji State women’s hockey team took a 2-0 lead on Minnesota Duluth Saturday at the Sanford Center but UMD scored four straight goals, including three in the final frame, to down the Beavers 4-2.

The teams will stage a rematch 4 p.m. today at the Sanford Center.

After a scoreless first period Ivana Bilic gave BSU a 1-0 lead 3:53 into the second stanza when she connected with her second goal of the season while the Beavers were on the power play 3:53. Sadie Lundquist assisted on the tally.

About 30 seconds later Bemidji State upped its advantage to 2-0 when Megan Lushanko scored her first goal of the winter with help from Hanna Moher and Alex Citrowske.

The 2-0 cushion stood until the 13:22 mark of the second period when UMD’s Perenilla Winberg notched her fourth goal of the season.

The visitors carried the play in the third period and 2:53 into the session the Bulldogs tied the game when Emma Stauber scored.

Zoe Hickel collected the eventual game-winner at 7:11 while UMD was on the power play and Jenna McParland iced the game with her goal with 42 seconds to play and after Bemidji State had pulled goaltender Jessica Havel.

Havel finished with 23 saves and a pair of UMD goalies combined for 39 saves.
