The Bemidji State women's hockey team picked up its second win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Wayne State Friday night at John Glas Fieldhouse.
Bemidji State junior Erin Johnson scored the game-winning goal and assisted on the insurance goal for the Beavers.
All three Bemidji State goals came in the second period.
"We just need to get in the habit of winning games, we played well enough to win two games last weekend, but we just didn't finish," Bemidji State head coach Steve Sertich said. "I think this weekend is crucial for building confidence and finding ways to win."
BSU goalie Zuzana Tomcikova finished the game with 31 saves, stopping 13 in a slow first period for the Beavers.
The second period saw the Beavers take over.
BSU outshot Wayne State 12-10 and ended up scoring all three of its goals in the period.
Mackenzie Thurston scored on a rebound for Bemidji State's first goal of the game. The initial shot came from Marlee Wheelhouse and Erin Cody was credited with an assist on the play.
The second goal was the result of a five-on-three power play for Bemidji State.
Montana Vichorek took a shot on goal from the point and Annie Bauerfeld took another shot off from the rebound.
Johnson picked up the third rebound attempt and put it in the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season.
On the third goal, Franny Dorr put home another rebound goal that was left in front of the net.
Emily Erickson shot the first shot on goal, and Johnson was also credited for an assist on the goal.
Bemidji State and Wayne State wrap up the weekend series at 2:07 p.m. Saturday at John Glas Fieldhouse.
