WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Warmack scores 1,000th point but Mustangs run past Beavers

MARSHALL — Southwest Minnesota State dominated the last ten minutes of the game to defeat BSU 76-64 Friday in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action.

The Mustangs (4-15, 2-13 NSIC) outscored the Beavers 25-10 in the final stretch to earn their second win in NSIC play.

Senior center Kate Warmack became the 17th player in school history to reach the 1,000 point plateau as she converted a shot from the post with 9:03 left in the first half.

Her basket followed up a three-pointer from freshman Aimee Pelzer to give the Beavers (8-11, 4-11 NSIC) a 20-16 lead.

A three-pointer from Morgan Lee gave BSU its largest lead of the first half at 32-25 with four minutes remaining in the half.

The Mustangs ended the first half on an 8-2 run, but still trailed 34-33 at the break.

Lee made seven of nine shots in the first half, when she scored 16 of her game-high 23 points.

Back-to-back lay-ups from Emilee Duske and Rebekah Rolling regained the lead for SMSU at 59-56 with 7:51 left in the game.

Alison Nagel and Annessa Rosch added baskets to make it a 9-0 run to give the Mustangs a 64-56 lead.

Nagel and Mikayla Saathoff led the way for SMSU with 14 points each.

Jessie Althoff added 19 points, while Pelzer added 11 off of the bench for the Beavers.

Warmack was held to just five points on the night, but she added 11 rebounds and five blocks. She is now two blocks away from setting the school record for blocks in a career.

BSU will look to snap its four-game losing skid today against Sioux Falls.
