WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: UMD tops BSU 72-50

DULUTH — Minnesota-Duluth dominated the end of the first half and the beginning of the second to hand the BSU women a 72-50 loss Friday in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Action at Romano Gym.

In a 15-minute stretch — beginning with 6 minutes, 30 seconds, remaining in the first half and carrying into the second — the Bulldogs posted a 37-10 advantage to create separation.

BSU (9-16, 5-16 NSIC) was doomed by surrendering 19 second chance points off of 24 offensive rebounds. The Beavers also committed 20 turnovers that led to 23 points.

The Bulldogs (13-12, 10-11 NSIC) scored the first five points of the game, but Morgan Lee scored seven early points help even the score at 9-9 with 14:21 remaining in the first half.

BSU never owned a lead, but still only trailed by three points at 21-18 with 6:40 left in the half.

UMD closed out the half on a 15-5 run to build a comfortable 36-23 halftime edge.

Duluth added to its lead by outscoring BSU 22-5 in the first eight minutes of the second half to make the margin an insurmountable 30 points at 58-28.

The Beavers outscored the Bulldogs 22-14 in the remaining minutes, but the hole was too deep to climb out of.

Lee led the offense for BSU with a dozen points.

UMD’s Katrina Newman led all scorers with 16 points on the night.

BSU will wrap up its regular season schedule today in St. Cloud at 4 p.m. against St. Cloud State.
