BEMIDJI -- A Red Lake woman is facing criminal charges after she crashed her vehicle causing injuries to a passenger on Sunday.

Melvina Rose May, 49, rolled her Ford F150 at approximately 3:25 a.m. Sunday, according to court documents. The Minnesota State Patrol and Beltrami County Sheriff's deputies responded to a one-vehicle rollover accident on Highway 89 south of Scribner Road NW where May was found sitting in her vehicle, which was in the west ditch of Highway 89.

The criminal complaint stated May admitted to having been drinking and had no noticeable injuries. Her passenger, Jan Lussier, age not given, was put on a stretcher and into an ambulance with complaints of back and head injuries, according to the court document. A trooper on the scene did not notice any observable injuries on the passenger.

A preliminary blood test showed an alcohol concentration of 0.184; the legal limit is 0.08. May was arrested and transported to the Beltrami County Jail. She refused to answer any of law enforcement's questions. She is charged with criminal vehicular homicide or operation-bodily harm, which carries a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $3,000 fine.

May was scheduled for her first court appearance Tuesday. She is currently being held in the Beltrami County Jail.
