At 10:23 a.m. Tuesday, the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, along with Blackduck Ambulance and the Kelliher Fire Department, responded to a 911 call from a residence in Shooks Township and found Matthew David Albert, 27, with a gunshot wound to his head.
The 911 call was made by Albert's partner, Betsy Marie Hanks, who the BCSO said was taken into custody Thursday by investigators and Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agents.
Albert was alive but unconscious when authorities arrived Tuesday morning. He was transported by Blackduck Ambulance to a landing site for North Memorial Air Ambulance, which airlifted him to North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis. He never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead Thursday. His body was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office for autopsy.
A.22-caliber revolver that was missing from the residence was recovered Thursday in Mizpah by officers who were led to the gun by Hanks.
Hanks is in custody at the Beltrami County Jail. Reports will be forwarded to the Beltrami County attorney for review regarding potential murder charges.
