Winter weather prompts weather service to issue watch, warning for Bemidji, Red Lake

BEMIDJI - A winter storm watch has been issued by the National Weather Service, with snow and strong winds expected Sunday night and Monday.

The weather service said north-northwest winds could increase to 25 to 40 mph by Monday morning. Stronger gusts also are possible.

"These winds combined with any falling snow will create blizzard conditions," the weather service said.

In addition, snowfall amounts along U.S. Highway 2 and north is expected to be 3 to 6 inches. It is expected snow will begin falling Monday morning

The winter storm watch, which includes Bemidji and Bagley, will be in effect through Monday afternoon.

A winter storm warning, in effect until 6 p.m. Monday, has been issued by the weather service for much of areas north and west of Bemidji, including northern Beltrami County and communities on the Red Lake Indian Reservation.
