Winter-like temperatures to return Thursday evening
While Thursday temperatures will be in the relatively balmy range of 30 degrees, that will drop by nightfall, with possible lows below zero, according to the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks, N.D. In addition there's a 30 percent chances of a dusting of snow on Thursday, with less than a half-inch forecast, the weather service said.
However, the Bemidji area most likely will be spared another winter storm that's moving up from the Twin Cities area and heading north and east toward Duluth and western Wisconsin. A winter storm warning is in effect into Thursday evening for much of the area surrounding Duluth.
That's because a storm with blizzard-like potential will be sweeping north and east from southern Minnesota, where blizzard warnings are already in place in some areas.
Traveling east from Bemidji, there is the potential for heavier snowfall on Thursday, between 4 to 6 inches in some areas in Koochiching, Itasca and Aitkin counties, the weather service said.
Closer to home, colder temperatures will continue on Friday and through the weekend, with daytime high temperatures only in the single digits, with overnight lows below zero.
