Winter storm watch issued for region
BEMIDJI – A series of weather systems are moving across the northern plains this weekend, bring the potential of snow accumulation, gusty winds and hazardous wind chills to northern Minnesota.
The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a winter storm watch, with the forecast including a 20 percent chance of snow this afternoon, with a high near 27.
Tonight, there is an 80 percent chance of snow, with accumulation up to 3 inches possible.
The weather service forecasts an 80 percent chance of snow Sunday, with a high near 21 and north winds from 13-17 mph.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation cautions motorists to drive with caution. Motorists should check road conditions before driving at www.511mn.org or call 511, be patient as snowplow crews work to improve roadways, stay at least five car lengths behind the plow and slow down to a safe speed for current conditions.
