Winona State knocked out seven home runs, including three by Joe Kley, to sweep a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference baseball doubleheader over Bemidji State Saturday at the BSU Baseball Field. The Warriors won by scores of 21-8 and 13-5.
Bemidji State took a 5-1 lead in the opener behind a grand slam homer by Nick Jelacie, but the Warriors came back with three runs in the fourth and 10 in the fifth to take the lead for good.
The nightcap was tied 4-4 after three innings, but Winona scored five times in the fourth and poured it on from there.
BSU fell to 11-18 overall and 2-10 in the conference.
Senior Josh Silvernagel extended his hitting streak to 11 games in the opener but failed to get a hit in the second game. Sophomore Jeff Schaper went 2 for 3 and knocked in two runs for the day. Senior Joe Chism went 4 for 8 on the day, including his sixth home run of the season.
Next up for the Beavers is a Tuesday trip to Southwest Minnesota State for an NSIC doubleheader that is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
