WILSON, Minn. (AP) — An auction in Winona County seems to reflect the rising cost of farmland in Minnesota.

One parcel at a farm near Wilson generated more than $14,000 per acre, nearly double the top price for farmland last year. The farm, with its 336 acres of land, machinery, equipment and crops, collectively sold for about $2.7 million Tuesday.

Winona County Recorder Bob Bambenek tells the Winona Daily Newsthat last year's high price for farmland was $7,500 an acre. This year, a sale in Warren Township averaged more than $10,000 an acre.

Larry Brand farms near Nodine. He was priced out of any purchase Tuesday. Brand says anything more than $4,000 an acre for farmland makes it impossible to earn a living.
