MOORHEAD -- Eighth grader Morgan Williams tied for sixth place Tuesday and helped Bemidji to a runnerup finish at the Moorhead Invitational high school girls golf meet at The Meadows.
Williams opened her round with a 5-over-par 41 and shot 45 on the back nine for a 14-over 86. Cold and windy conditions made scoring difficult.
Detroit Lakes, led by medalist Kate Smith's 74, won the team title with 332 strokes. The Lumberjacks were next with 374.
"With the conditions and all, it's tough to play when you're all wrapped up," said Bemidji coach Jeff Nelson. "But the girls battled out there. None of our girls had played the course before, and all of them hit at least three balls in the water."
It was the second varsity meet for Williams, and her second top-8 finish.
"I thought I played pretty consistently," Williams said. "My putting was not very good. The wind was pretty heavy. But I'm happy with the round."
Four other Bemidji golfers broke 100. Megan Dondelinger had a 94, Morgan Miller and Katelin Craft shot 97 and Kelsey Isaacson shot 99. Hailey Hinners added a 110 for the Jacks.
