White Earth man arrested after woman shot in Mahnomen

A White Earth, Minn., man was arrested Saturday after a woman was shot in Mahnomen.

David James Bower Jr. was arraigned Monday in Mahnomen County District Court on charges of felony first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted murder, felon in possession of a firearm and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance

Bail was set at $50,000 cash or $500,000 bond. His next court appearance was set for Thursday, March 11. Meanwhile, he remains in the Mahnomen County Jail.

According to the Mahnomen County Sheriff's Office, deputies were on patrol in the city of Mahnomen in the early hours of Saturday when they heard shots fired near downtown.

At the same time, other deputies were responding to a call about a burglary in progress in the same area.

A man was seen fleeing the area of the burglary and was detained by deputies.

More deputies arrived, as did officers from the White Earth Police Department and agents of the Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force.

They determined that the man, who was detained, had shot a 20-year-old woman from Naytahwaush, Minn., who was "down the street from the burglary call."

She was treated for minor injuries and released from the Mahnomen Health Center.
