This week at BHS: Hall of Fame celebration will be May 14
This year's Bemidji High School Hall of Fame inductees are familiar with what it takes to achieve team and individual success.
Representing four different decades, this year's group will officially be inducted into the BHS Athletic Hall of Fame on May 14 during the annual Lumberjacks athletic and Hall of Fame ceremony at the high school commons.
Tickets for the event, which begins at 6 p.m., are $11 and may be purchased at the BHS activities office 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each week day through May 9.
The 2012 Hall of Fame inductees are Fred Swenson, Kevin Bohlig, Troy Hendricks and Kristy Wallner. The group joins 70 former Lumberjacks who already belong to the Hall of Fame.
Swenson was a Lumberjack in the late 1950s and lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track. He helped guide Bemidji to the state baseball tournament in 1957 and the state basketball tournament in 1957 and 1958.
Bohlig graduated in 1978 and lettered in three sports. Bohlig started two years with the football team and was all-conference and a three-year starter with the basketball team. His senior season the basketball squad began the season ranked No. 1 in the state and advanced to the state tournament.
Hendricks is the BHS activities director and a 1982 graduate. His prep resume includes all tri-state honors as a senior running back and three appearances at the state high school wrestling meet.
Wallner was a four-year letter winner and captain in soccer, a five-year letter winner in softball and a five-year letter winner in basketball. As a captain she helped guide the Jacks to the state basketball tournament in 2000 and 2001.
The Hall of Fame ceremony will also pay tribute to this year's Lumberjacks athletes, especially the seniors. During the fall athletic seasons 58 seniors received letters. Another 46 seniors lettered during the winter and the spring rosters include 38 seniors who are expected to earn letters.

This week's schedule includes 15 varsity events but only three of them will be at home.
The slate began Monday when the baseball team hosted Warroad and the girls golfers traveled to the Park Rapids Invitational.
Today's lone event is the track and field invitational at Grand Rapids. The busiest days of the week will be Thursday and Friday.
Thursday's schedule sees the tennis team heading to Thief River Falls for the Northwest Quad while the track teams will travel to the Detroit Lakes Invitational and the softball team heads to West Fargo for a doubleheader.
The Lumberjacks baseball team also will play two games on Thursday. At 4:30 p.m. BHS will battle Sauk Rapids and immediately following that game it will visit Sartell for another section contest.
On Friday the softball and tennis teams will host Brainerd while the boys golfers will be at Park Rapids and the baseball team at Fergus Falls.
The week will end on Saturday with the girls golfers at Virginia and the boys golfers at Greystone for the Alexandria Invitational.
