Wayne was born on October 20, 1929 to Fred and Nina (Olson) Floura. He was raised and attended schools in Hines and Blackduck. After high school, Wayne worked as a logger and later for Case Farm Equipment in Illinois. He enlisted in the Army in 1948 and spent a year in active service and five years in the active reserves. In 1954 he married Eilene (Ike) Haugen in Staples, Minn.; June of 2009 will mark their 55th wedding anniversary. He returned to logging before he began his career with the Minnesota Department of Transportation in Bemidji, retiring after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Eagles Club and the American Legion. He was an avid outdoorsman, spending much of his time fishing, hunting, and trapping. A traveler, Wayne loved spending the winter months down South, as well as making trips to Europe to visit family. Other things he enjoyed were collecting state quarters, watching baseball and being a co-owner and operator of Floura Brother's Wild Rice with his brother, Gene. His master hobby, however, was his garden. His green thumb could always nurture the best tomatoes around.
He is survived by his wife, Eilene of Bemidji, Minn.; children, Jean (Clark) Chambers of Bemidji, Minn., Thomas (Lorie) Floura of Paynesville, Minn., Sandra (Jack) Freer of Prior Lake, Minn.; grandkids, Tyler (Samantha) Chambers of Savage, MN, Trevor Chambers of Minneapolis, Minn., Terran Chambers of Bemidji, Minn., Mitchell and Matthew Floura of Paynesville, Minn., Bailey Freer of Prior Lake, Minn.; great-granddaughter, Peyton Chambers of Savage, Minn.; sister, Beverly (Neil) Bryant of Hines, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eugene Floura; and nephew, Warren Floura.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to First Lutheran Church.
