BEMIDJI - The kickoff meeting for planning for the Lake Bemidji waterfront redesign has been rescheduled for April 3 at the Sanford Center.

The meeting had been scheduled earlier this month but was postponed due to uncertainty with the future of the Carnegie library. The Bemidji City Council has now decided to allow supporters time to save the historic building but expect planning for the waterfront and the Carnegie to continue at the same time.

The kickoff meeting for planning for Library Park and Paul Bunyan Park will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Lakeview Room 4 of the George W. Neilson Conference & Convention Center in the Sanford Center. Participants should enter through Gate 4.

The city is seeking input as it begins contemplating renovations for the two parks. This is the first meeting planned; others will be held as the project continues.

The design of the parks will look at the uses within the parks, how their features can be improved and providing safe and accessible connections from the waterfront to downtown.

Another priority will examine how the waterfront space can best be used for both day-to-day use and special events.
