Former St. Michael resident Wallace R. "Wally" Johnson, 85, of Ogema, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at his home.
Wallace Richard Johnson was born to Andrew W. and Glenna (Swanson) Johnson on Jan. 12, 1923 in Minneapolis. He served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. For 23 years, he worked as a machinist for Kurt Manufacturing in Fridley.
On Feb. 5, 1944 Wally married Ollie M. Wing in Columbia Heights. Wally enjoyed woodcarving and loved to travel. He spent 12 winters in Lazy Palms RV Park, located near Carrollton, Texas.
Surviving Wally are his sons, Jim (Janet) Johnson of Detroit Lakes and Jerry (Darlene) Johnson of Akin; daughters, Judy (Wendell) Hung of Plymouth, Minn., and Janice Harold of Forest Lake; sisters-in-law, Doris Johnson of Coon Lake and Shirley (Phil) Hockert of Florida; brother-in-law, David (Linda) Wing of Edina; 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Wally in death were his parents; wife, Ollie (Sept. 21, 1992); and brother, Robert.
A private memorial service will be held, with interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Buffalo, Minn.
