Waldimir T. "Ted" Nameniuk, 73, of Lake Park, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, in Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park.

Ted was born to Matt and Josephine Nameniuk on Feb. 14, 1935 in Billings County, N.D. He attended school in Belfield, N.D., graduating with honors and lettering in basketball and football. In 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was trained in electronics repair. He was stationed at the Hanford Site in Washington as a radar technician, and was promoted to sergeant prior to his discharge.

Upon returning from the service, Ted attended college at Dickinson State University and worked in commercial construction. In 1961, Ted married Janice Scheet at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby, N.D., and returned to Dickinson, where they made their home for 35 years. Ted continued to work in commercial construction for many years, including owning his own company for 10 years.

In 1985, Ted went to work for Dickinson High School as the director of grounds and maintenance, finally retiring after 10 years in that position. In 1997, Ted and Jan moved to Moorhead, and ultimately retired in Lake Park.

Ted enjoyed camping, boating and water skiing with his family and friends. In his later years, he enjoyed golf also.

Ted is survived by his wife, Jan; his three sons, Daniel (Shelly) Nameniuk of Pierre, S.D., David (Sheryl) Nameniuk of Fargo and Richard (Anna) Nameniuk of Mobile, Ala.; six grandchildren and one sister, Ina Latusek of Deadwood, S.D. His parents and brother, Matt, preceded Ted in death.

A private family memorial service is planned at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Park, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Belfield, N.D. Wright Funeral Home in Lake Park was entrusted with arrangements. A guest book and video tribute can be accessed online at
