VOLLEYBALL: Wolves top Drakes in Section 8A East semifinals

BEMIDJI — Blackduck kept it close but couldn’t stay with Walker-Hackensack-Akeley the whole match.

The Wolves beat the Drakes in four sets, 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-10, in their Section 8A East semifinal game Tuesday night at Bemidji State University.

The second-seeded Wolves (15-9) will take on top-seeded Fosston in the Section 8A East final Friday in Bagley.

On Tuesday night the Drakes and Wolves played three spirited sets.

In the first set Blackduck fell behind early but battled back and led 14-9 until the Wolves tied it again at 14-all.

From there it went back-and-forth until it was 22-all; W-H-A got three straight points for the victory.

In the second set the Drakes fell behind again early but tied it at 10-10. Again, it went back-and-forth until the Drakes led 23-22. Blackduck couldn’t get two more points and W-H-A won 25-23.

In the third set the Drakes won 25-20 but fell behind big in the fourth set 25-10.

Blackduck ends its season at 14-9.

In the other match, top-seeded Fosston swept No. 5 Lake of the Woods.

In the West-Sub Section, Win-E-Mac and Badger/Greenbush-Middle River both won Tuesday and will also play Friday at Bagley.
