VOLLEYBALL: Thief River Falls tops Bemidji in 5
THIEF RIVER FALLS — The last time the Bemidji High School volleyball team played Thief River Falls, they were fairly easily brushed aside by the state-ranked Prowlers. TRF swept the Lumberjacks 3-0 back on Sept. 3.
On Thursday night the Lumberjacks gave the Prowlers the match they were looking for.
Bemidji took Thief River Falls to give games before eventually falling 21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 18-21, 5-15 to the Prowlers, the No. 7 team in Class AA.
It was the regular-season finale for both teams.
“It was a pretty intense match,” BHS assistant coach Netti Homer said.
“We had a lot of good hitting and digging.
“We kind of dropped off there at the end but overall it was a much better showing than last time we played them.”
Myria Colley led the BHS offense with 15 kills, Alexa Greendahl had 11, Brylee Colligan nine and Claire Laakso eight.
Greendahl also had 36 set assists. Hannah Falldorf added three service aces.
Defensively, Laakso had four blocks and Maura Chadwick two. Hanna Olson and Colley both had 17 digs.
The Lumberjacks, who are now 14-13, will await their first opponent in the Section 8-3A tournament.
As of Thursday afternoon Alexandria was first in the Section QRF standings while Bemidji was second, Moorhead was third, Monticello fourth and St. Cloud Tech fifth.
The top four seeds have a bye in the first round, which begins Wednesday night. The second round would be Friday night.
