VOLLEYBALL: Bemidji takes third in Hopkins tournament
MINNETONKA — The Bemidji High School volleyball team went 2-2 Saturday, capturing third place overall in the Hopkins Royal Invitational.
The Lumberjacks (7-9) defeated Robinsdale Armstrong and Eastview before falling in the golf flight to Hopkins and St. Michael Albertville.
“We made it to the championship flight but didn’t finish as strong as we started,” BHS head coach Teresa Colligan said. “It was a long day for us, though, so I think we just got worn out at the end.”
Bemidji left at 4 a.m. to make it to the tournament in time.
The Lumberjacks topped Armstrong 25-19, 25-23, then beat Eastview 23-25, 26-24, 15-8 to make it to the title flight.
From there, Lumberjacks were swept by state-ranked Hopkins 25-11, 25-19, and St. Michael-Albertville 25-23, 25-16.
Mariah Colley led BHS in the tournament with 19 kills and also had 19 digs while Hanna Olson led the Jacks with 20 digs.
Olson was named Bemidji’s player of the tournament for her backline play.
The Lumberjacks return to Bemidji Tuesday to take on East Grand Forks.
