“It was a good match for us,” BHS head coach Teresa Colligan said of the Lumberjack victory. “We played very consistently and the girls were fired up the whole time.”

The Lumberjacks (20-7) beat the Bears (9-13) in the first set, 25-13, before easing to a 25-9 second-set victory. Lake of the Wood made things interesting in the third set but Bemidji held on to win 25-23.

Jess Yost had 20 kills to lead BHS and also added 12 digs and three blocks. Myria Colley led the Lumberjacks in both digs (14) and service aces (3), while Blake Bardwell had four blocks to lead the team and added eight kills.

Alexa Greendahl’s 35 assists helped power the BHS offense.

The Lumberjacks will begin play in the Section 8-3A tournament next week. Depending on how the seeding process goes, the Jacks may get a bye into the second round, which would be played on Friday, Oct. 26. The first round is scheduled to begin Wednesday, Oct. 24.

NOTE: The Bemidji High School volleyball coaches and players will host their annual clinic Thursday at the high school gym for girls and boys in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.

The event begins at 9 a.m. with registration and the clinic will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Registration is $20 and includes prizes and snacks.
