EAST GRAND FORKS – The Bemidji High School volleyball team improved to 12-3 on the season with an impressive 3-0 road sweep of East Grand Forks.

The Lumberjacks topped the Green Wave (12-6-1) by a score of 25-16, 25-17, 25-21. It’s the third straight victory for the Lumberjacks, but assistant coach Netti Homer said the Wave were no pushover.

“They’re a decent team, and we played a solid game in the first and second sets,” she said.

The Lumberjacks ran into trouble in the third set, when the Wave built up a 17-12 lead.

But the Jacks chipped away at the lead with a 7-2 run to tie the game at 19-all. They went on to win 25-21 and earn the sweep. It was a good rebound for a Bemidji team that has had trouble closing down matches in the third set.

“It was good that we didn’t give up this time when we were down,” Homer said.

Allie Heifort and Timi Severson led the Lumberjacks offensively with 12 kills apiece, while Jess Yost added 12.

Alexa Greendahl had 31 assists while Blake Bardwell had two blocks. Yost led Bemidji with 17 digs.

BHS heads to St. Michael-Albertville this weekend for a tournament that includes some of the top teams in the state before returning home Oct. 9 to host Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.
