VOLLEYBALL: Bemidji State snaps 13-match losing streak with win over U-Mary

BEMIDJI – The Bemidji State University volleyball team defeated the University of Mary Friday night 25-22, 26-24, 25-22 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match.

The win ended the second-longest losing streak in Bemidji State’s volleyball history and was the season’s first win at home.

Courtney Volkmann’s kill capped the win in the first set and BSU (4-18, 2-13 NSIC) took the second game by winning the last two points on kills by Kelley Niles and Chelsea Frison.

The third set featured 12 lead changes or ties but the Beavers eventually outlasted U-Mary (3-19, 3-12 NSIC) to claim the match. Bemidji State finished with a .280 hitting percentage while the Marauders hit at a .181 pace.

Bethany Thompson had 17 kills and Volkmann contributed 32 assists. BSU hosts Minot State today at 3 p.m.
