Virginia Lois (Nelsen) Drown age 90, formerly of Bemidji, died peacefully Sept. 4, 2013 in Minneapolis.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home with Pastor Kent Dudley officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.
Born May 29, 1923 in St. Paul, Ginny was the oldest of six children. After graduating as valedictorian in 1943 from of her North St. Paul High School, Ginny joined the Navy and proudly served her country until 1946. She went to NW Nazarene College in Idaho for nurses training where she met Fred Drown who she married in 1948. After college, Ginny worked hard helping Fred begin his career as a minister in Nazarene churches in South and North Dakota where she gave birth to Marilyn, Marlys, and David. In 1960, the family moved to Bemidji where Fred operated a beef farm and Virginia worked with the Social Security Administration. A gifted musician and artist, Ginny played piano at home and church and passed along her talent and love of music to her children and grandchildren. Her friendly smile and quick wit warmed all who met her.
Survived by son, David (Lisa Berg); grandchildren, Kim, Daren, Joe, Jennifer, Daniel, David, Michael, Matthew and Andrew, and twelve great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by husband, Fred, and daughters Marilyn Shutter and Marlys Head.
