Virgil "Cob" Lee Fairbanks, 61, of Mahnomen, died Friday, March 27, 2009 at his home in Mahnomen.
He was born Sept. 11, 1947 in White Earth to Thomas and Marie (Brunette) Fairbanks. He attended elementary school in Pine Point, high school in Park Rapids, and welding school in Grand Rapids.
He moved to Minneapolis, where he utilized his skill of welding at the American Iron Supply Co. for 37 years. He received numerous awards for the artistic sculptures he had welded. He married Bobbi Marshall April 8, 1978 in Minneapolis.
He is survived by his wife; five children: Racheal (Jason) Deitchler, of Ramsey, Thomas, of Mahnomen, Rachel, of Mahnomen, Donald (Lori), of Rice Lake, and Brandon, of Mahnomen; brothers and sisters: Angeletta (George) Ross, of Cass Lake, William (Judy) Henry, of Minneapolis, Joyce (Walter) Yellowhammer, of Brooklyn Center, Rena Vizenor, of Mahnomen, Paulette (Larry) Molin, of Hampton, Va., Vicki (Roger) Sternberg, of Detroit Lakes, Karen, of Burlington, Ky., James (Denise) Fairbanks - USN, of Gulfport, Miss., Margaret (Steve) Eischens, of Sauk Rapids, Tim (Darlene), of Ogema, Pamela (Ron), of Ponsford, Thomas (Sue), of Wonderlake, Ill., Charles (Sandy), of Winthrop Harbor, Ill., Joann (Don) Peters, of Lake Mary, Fla., and Betty Chevalier, of Blaine; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Robert, Gordon Henry Sr., and Joseph; a sister, Verna Jorgenson; and infant sisters: LaVonne Henry, and Florence and Veronica.
Funeral service: Tuesday, March 31 at Pine Point School in Pine Point, with Kevin Stock officiating.
