Virgil Beck, 70, of Bemidji, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at his home.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Bemidji with Rev. Kent Dudley and Rev. Genelle Netland officiating. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Bemidji.

Pallbearers will be Dan Sadek, Marty Woodford, Tony Beck, Ken Pearson, Al Sadek, Mike Sadek and his grandsons Aaron, Steven and John Curtis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Christianson, Ron Skime, Marvin Wasen, Melvin Tobey, Vernal Toftum, Loren Langerack, Dale Voigt and all his coffee buddies.

He was born Dec. 15, 1936, to Martin and Ruth (Wiggnes) Beck in Mower County, Minn. He moved with his family to Bemidji when he was 11. When he was young, he worked on a farm and also logged. He married Irene Rabe June 30, 1956, in Bemidji. He drove a truck for Mel Tobey, Pine Ridge, and hauled poles for Bahr transport. He and his brother Kenny bought the race track in Bemidji and ran it from 1971-1973. In 1973, he bought his first semi. He hauled out of Fisher, Minn., for 18 years. After working in Fisher he hauled bark for Potlatch. He retired from trucking in 1992. He and his wife bought a house and built a farm where they raised cattle. He recently retired and they planned to move to Blackduck Lake. He loved stock car racing and enjoyed hunting, fishing and everything outdoors, his family, cattle and spending time with his coffee buddies.

He is survived by his wife of Bemidji; children, SuzeAnn Beck of Bemidji, Debbie (Darwin) Wiebolt of Bemidji, Vicky (John) Schulke of Bemidji, Curt (Sandy) Beck of Bemidji and Jodi Beck of Bemidji; brothers, Kenneth (Bernice) Beck of Webster City, Iowa, and Wayne (Marilyn) Beck of Onawa, Iowa; one aunt; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and special friend, Roy Christianson

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Shirley and Jeannie; two half-brothers; and two half-sisters.
