Violet Grace Jackson, 25, of Minneapolis, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, in Minneapolis.
Traditional funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Red Lake Community Center in Red Lake with spiritual leader Anna Gibbs officiating. A wake will begin at noon today at Red Lake Community Center and continue until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Bellanger Family Burial Grounds in Red Lake.
Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji assisted the family with arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Samuel White, Donald Bellanger, Steve Bellanger, Antoine Bellanger Jr., Vincent Jackson, Leroy Bellcourt and Jeffrey Bellcourt.
Honorary pallbearers will be her aunts, Charlys May, Marie Bellanger, Diane Lussier, Judy Bellanger, Anita Spears, Victoria White, Kari Bellcourt and Valerie Bellcourt.
She was born Dec. 18, 1982, to Vincent Jackson and Caroline Bellanger in Minneapolis. She was raised and educated in Minneapolis, Red Lake, Colorado and Duluth, Minn., for several years by Marcia Gurno. While in grade school, she placed in the national top 10 for a short story writing contest.
She enjoyed music, laughing with her friends and family and winter sports. She had a respect for all religions, but enjoyed the traditional elements of her own culture.
She is survived by her mother, of Minneapolis; father, of Minneapolis; grandmothers, Doris Bellcourt of White Earth and Ardelle "Joanie Blue" Bellanger of Red Lake; son, Jose Jackson Gurno of Duluth; sisters, Yvette Bellanger of Detroit, Valerie Benjamin of Duluth, Lavonne Bellanger of Duluth, Miranda Bellanger of Duluth and Lorena Bellanger of Red Lake; and brother, Ron Gurno of Duluth.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, a great aunt and several cousins.
